Volkswagen: Now with More Fail!

I wandered about getting price quotes for installation of new headlights. This is for simple, bolt-on, plug-in light assemblies. Because VWs are built like Swiss watches, it's a two-hour job to swap and align a pair of lights. I'm not sure how long it'd take on your car. The prices are as follows:
German auto specialist up the street: $160. They have the advantage of being within walking distance of home.
Champion Volkswagen: $168.88. They have the advantage of probably including tax in their hourly labor costs.
Cost of headlights, including tax, shipping, and shipping insurance: $157.24

  1. THIS is why I like my American car. When I replaced mine it cost 20 dollars and took me fifteen minutes!

Why not just try to do it yourself?

  2. There's no way your headlights cost $20. That's the price of a pair of cheap bulbs. I'm talking about the whole assembly, including the plastic (or glass in older cars) cover, the sockets, mounting hardware, and all bulbs. Sure, it all comes out as a unit, but with the smaller engine bay and seamless front of a newer car, it isn't easy to dig out.

  3. Didn't you know? Brandon's cover is saran wrap, and he uses sculpted potatoes for the silly part he realized were unnecessary. His lights only work in the daytime for some reason though...
