It's funny how I motivate myself to save money. I tend to impulse buy like mad if I don't strictly control myself, so I devise little schemes to keep my bank account up. I allowed myself a single CD at $500 and a cigar at $1000. For $1500, which comes with the next paycheck, I get a new bit of metal in my ear. They're all $20 or less, with the exception of next week's, but they do the job and keep me saving and not spending anything. In addition to that, I set limits at each $500. Once I've reached it, I can't go below the previous number under any circumstances. You guys have any stupid schemes like that or do you not have issues with money burning a hole in your pocket?

i'm always poor, but i shop impulsively, so no i don't really do anything like that.
I burn money so fast. if it's in my wallet it is already gone. My saving ideas are thus.
Take money, and put it in a place where it isn't accessible if i'm out and about.
My debit card is my biggest enemy for that one.
But if i want something. I take money out of that place that is hard to get to and i buy it.
It has kept me from spending about 700$ so far. So i think it's a good system.
60 Dollars a week. Period. That is enough to allow me to eat out (the only way i get fed on work nights and some school days) and buy gas within a week (note i drive the intrepid, so i need a bit more). Regardless of what happens, i don't take more than that out. I don't even look at the account. 60 Dollars. If i think I'm cutting close with gas, i stay in (thats why before i left i was rarely going out to hang with people unless they offered rides).
are you dumping this in an actual savings account or just keeping it in your checking or whatever?
joseph's suggest is a good one. i once hid like 200 bucks. forgot i had it and happened upon it later.
then again, if you're saving it for a purpose that might not be the best of ideas.
friend of mine had his dad keep so much of each check for him so that he couldn't access it.
